GRADES 9-12 2 SEMESTERS • 2 CREDITS

DESCRIPTION Performance and vocal skills are performed at a high level. Choral repertoire is developmentally appropriate for these singers. Some emphasis is placed on sight-reading, critical listening skills, vocal technique and public performance. A reasonable ensemble fee is required for costumes, music, accompanist fees, contest entries, and other expenses for performance. A fundraiser will be made available for students to raise money for fees. Students will have a couple of performance opportunities outside of the school day each semester. It is possible to participate in various athletic and extracurricular activities, and it is the student’s responsibility to work with directors and coaches on conflicts.

DESCRIPTION New Ensemble is an elite small choral ensemble focusing on only the most advanced techniques in singing and performance. Students are only admitted through audition and in combination with participation in another Northridge Choral ensemble. Study includes collegiate and professional performance techniques in solo and smaller ensemble forms. Music theory, history, sight-reading, and vocal techniques are expanded and performed beyond the high school level. Students interested in pursuing careers in music and performance are encouraged to participate. It is possible to participate in various athletic and extracurricular activities, and it is the student’s responsibility to work with directors and coaches on conflicts. • Counts as an elective for all diplomas • Fulfills as a Fine Arts Requirement for the Core 40 Academic Honors Diploma • Fulfills International Baccalaureate Diploma requirement for Music Ensemble (HL or SL) • Fall Semester: Indiana State Course Title: 4180 Choral Chamber Ensemble (CHRL ENSEM) • Spring Semester: Indiana State Course Title: 4184 Vocal Jazz (VOC JAZZ)

REQUIREMENTS • Prerequisites: Must be a current member of another Northridge Choral Department ensemble • Admitted only through audition and signed contract • A smaller choral fee is required for music, contest entries, accompanist fees, and other expenses for performance. Costume fees and other expenses are absorbed through participation in another Northridge Choral Department Ensemble. Overnight trips and/or out of state travel may have an additional cost. (Fundraising opportunities available) • Attendance is required at all rehearsals and performances. This ensemble meets and rehearses both during the school day and outside of the school day on a scheduled basis.

Both ensembles are elite competitive advanced show choirs and concert choirs, which perform every available choral genre. This is occasionally combined with various dance techniques throughout the school year. Study includes both academic and professional performance techniques in solo and ensemble forms. Music theory, history, sight-reading, and vocal techniques are reviewed, expanded, and performed. It is possible to participate in various athletic and extracurricular activities, and it is the student’s responsibility to work with directors and coaches on conflicts. • Counts as an elective for all diplomas • Fulfills International Baccalaureate Diploma requirement for Music Ensemble (HL or SL) • Indiana State Course Title: 4188 Advanced Chorus (ADV CHOR)

REQUIREMENTS • Prerequisites: Admitted only through audition and signed contract. • Participation in all required concerts and rehearsals, written and performance evaluations, and guided electives at a college preparatory level. • Attendance is required at all rehearsals and performances. This ensemble meets and rehearses both during the school day and outside of the school day on a regular basis.
